Best beaches in Lancashire
Whether you’re a local looking to head out for the day or you’re visiting during a staycation, we’ll show you the best beaches in Lancashire to enjoy.
Morecambe Beaches
Morecambe is one of the most popular seaside towns in the North West. Perched near to the top of Lancashire and with views of the Lakeland Fells, Morecambe Bay itself stretches from Fleetwood to the south west coast of Cumbria, sprawling across Morecambe, Heysham and Grange Over Sands.
Morecambe Town is your typical seaside town, with a range of Fish & Chips shops, amusement parks and ice cream parlours to visit.
There are a number of beaches that straddle Morecambe, including Morecambe South, Morecambe North, Heysham and Hest Bank.
Heysham is a very small beach, especially when the tide is in, but there is the option to get the ferry over to the Isle of Man from the habour in Heysham.
Blackpool Beaches
Blackpool has three different beaches, Blackpool Central, Blackpool North and Blackpool Central, all offering something different.
Blackpool Central boasts 7 miles of sandy beach, right in the heart of Blackpool. This beach is where you will find the three famous piers and Blackpool Tower, one of the towns most visited attractions. This beach spans the promenade where you will find the Blackpool Illuminations during the end of Summer. There’s also plenty to do for children, including Donkey rides and amusements.
Blackpool North has been awarded the Blue Flag beach accolade, which means the beach itself meets standard requirements including clean water, sustainable practices, and good facilities. More equipped to appeal to those looking for a quieter experience, Blackpool North Beach is much more traditional in that it features North Pier Theatre and a Victorian tea room.
Blackpool South is another quieter option for those looking to get away from the general hustle and bustle and where you’ll find a host of sculptures to enjoy on your walk. Just South of this beach is Blackpool Pleasure Beach, one of the biggest family attractions in the North of England.
Lytham St Annes
Just 5 miles down the coast from bustling Blackpool is Lytham St Annes, a quiet and quaint traditional seaside town, with donkey rides, seaside shops and plenty of sandy beach. Suitable for those looking for a more relaxing experience, Lytham St Annes features landscaped gardens and a boating lake for those looking to get out and enjoy the Summer weather.
The Victorian style pier is a popular focal point in Lytham St Annes, with excellent views back over the North West Coastline.
If wildlife is something you enjoy, you can head South and visit Fairhaven Lake and the RSPB Discovery Centre.
